Fulbright Study Grant

Each year the Commission awards Master’s scholarships for Moroccan post- licence students to pursue a master’s degree in the United States. These scholarships are funded by the governments of Morocco and the United States.

  • University tuition
  • Health insurance
  • Monthly stipend

The Commission seeks applicants with the potential to excel as scholars and leaders who will foster the mutual understanding and friendship between Morocco and the United States. These are candidates who will contribute to the betterment of their communities and to their country. Scholarships are based on merit, following a fair and transparent selection process. Assessment will be based on the following key points:

Academic record:

  • Strength of academic background and performance: this is illustrated by university transcripts and academic achievements
  • Quality of recommendation letter: letters should be specific, detailed and written by recommenders who can make informed comparisons with other students or colleagues and evaluate leadership potential and ambassadorial qualities
  • English language proficiency (TOEFL score) as well as comparative GRE or GMAT scores

Motivation: The Commission seeks candidates who have a compelling vision and thoughtful reasons for wishing to pursue studies in the United States. It is essential for candidates to explain the expected outcomes of the Fulbright experience on their future career and communities.

Ambassadorial skills: The applicant’s ability to represent Morocco in the United States, the quality of his/her interpersonal skills, and willingness to engage with others. These skills are demonstrated through the candidate’s record of building productive relationships with people outside of his/her peer group and the performance during the interview.

Leadership skills: The Commission looks for candidates who are involved in extracurricular activities, student clubs and civil society associations and have taken an active leadership role in these activities. Strong candidates possess the ability to communicate effectively and inspire others. They should demonstrate commitment and a strong desire to contribute to society.

Applicants complete an on-line application form which includes a personal essay, an essay on why they want to study in the United States, three letters of recommendation, transcripts of their academic record (relevé de notes), and various additional information.

Applicants must provide the Commission with scores on two tests:

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  • GRE (Graduate Record Examinations General Test) for most fields of study, or the
  • GMAT (Graduate Management Achievement Test) for Business Administration.

These tests are administered in Morocco on specific dates by AMIDEAST Morocco.
Applicants must register in advance.

Selected candidates for the scholarship are called “Fulbright nominees” who are then placed in the hands of AMIDEAST and learn how to apply to American universities. In collaboration with the Commission and AMIDEAST, nominees select four potential university placements for which to apply. AMIDEAST and MACECE make the final choice among the four universities for the nominee.

Once this placement is approved by the State Department, they are then full-fledged Fulbright grantees and depart for the USA in the summer of the year following application.

Please note that the MBA is the most competitive area for Fulbright study grants.

Like all Fulbright programs, the Study Grantee must pledge to return to Morocco upon completion of the program.

  • Application launch: February 1st, 2021
  • Application deadline: May 31 st , 2021
  • Interviews: July 2021
  • Final decision: September 2021
  • University Admission: April 2021
  • Depart to the U.S.: Summer 2022

Note:

Prospective Fulbright participants should be aware that public health conditions, availability of consular services and travel, as well as U.S. institutional operating status and policies may affect their ability to travel to the U.S. and participate in academic programs.

Does MACECE choose the university I will go to?

After you are approved for a grant, your file is forwarded to AMIDEAST who works to find suitable universities to wish to apply (based on admission requirements).

What if I am already accepted at a university in the U.S.?

Do mention it in your application and send supporting documentation. However, there is no guarantee that you will be sent to that university.

Does it matter what year I got my undergraduate degree?

For regular Fulbright programs, it does not matter what year the degree was received. For other programs, please contact us for detailed information.

Does it matter what field my degree or research is in?

Although the US university system is very flexible, you must show that you will be competent in the field you choose to study in if it is different from the degree or research field that you are already in. You also should explain why you intend to change study
paths and what are your future plans. MACECE does not give grants to medical, pharmacy or dental school students.

What is the amount of the scholarship?

This varies depending on university tuition, airfare and other costs.

Can I apply for a grant even though I am studying in the US now?

Students currently in the US are not eligible for a grant.

Do students who have a degree from Al Akhawayn University or a degree in English have to take the TOEFL?

Yes

Can students with disabilities apply for the grant?

ALL students who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply for our programs. If you are nominated for the scholarship, the program will support you to find reasonable accommodations.

Can I stay in the US after I have completed my degree or research?

In order to receive the grant, you must sign a contract stipulating that you will return to Morocco immediately after you finish your degree/research, and that you must stay in Morocco for at least 2 years.

I have a green card. Can I still apply for the grant?

Green card holders are not eligible for the grant.

Who can write the letters of recommendations?

For students, their professors or deans can write their letters of recommendation. For researchers, their colleagues, professors, deans, or work supervisors. Letters from personal contacts are not admissible. For MBA candidates, it is also helpful to have a letter of recommendation from your supervisor at work.

What professional experience is required? (MBA students)

MBA students are required to have a minimum of 1 year of work experience. Internships
are not considered work experience in this case.
